Contemporary Apartment Scheme

This contemporary development – situated in the village of Bourne End, Buckinghamshire – saw the redevelopment and regeneration of an otherwise redundant brownfield site, to create a series of high-quality, modern apartments.

Following a carefully managed design and planning process – placing particular emphasis on crafting a response to the surrounding context of commercial and residential architecture, whist remaining modest and sympathetic in manner – the resultant design delivers a discreet development of five executive apartments with off-street parking, and a mix of private & shared communal gardens and amenity spaces.

To reflect its context and continue the pattern of buildings along the eastern side of Furlong Road – where a mix of flat and pitched roofs with expansive glazing is evident – the composition of the main, three storey form is intentionally simple. A stepped front elevation with buff brickwork walls – articulated with large recesses, forming private amenity spaces, and expansive glazing to optimise natural daylight – combined with grey cladding and ‘hit-and-miss’ boarding at ground level, creates interest and rhythm to the building’s façade.
