Traditional Homes

Contemporary Cotswold Farmstead

This luxury replacement country house – situated on a secluded hilltop site, overlooking a Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – has been creatively designed to sit comfortably within the rural landscape, optimising long-distance views across Oxfordshire’s stunning Evenlode Valley.

Following a rigorous, phased design and planning process – placing particular emphasis on the juxtaposition between the quaint residential aesthetic of the local village, and the semi-rural nature of its surroundings – the resultant design presents a collection of premium structures akin to a traditional farmstead.

This exemplar country house showcases traditionally composed forms – with simple rectangle plans and pitched roofs – and a carefully curated palette of high quality, durable and local materials – including Cotswold natural stone, zinc, Welsh slate and vertical ‘hit-and-miss’ cladding – offering a sympathetic response to the site, reflective of the local vernacular.

While the overall form and materiality of the structure are traditional in nature, contemporary elements, and detailing - including large, glazed openings and a single storey, fully glazed, flat roofed ‘extension’ to the rear – elevate the design, offering an elegant, modern aesthetic.
