Wokingham Golf Clubhouse

This unique, low-energy, single storey clubhouse at Wokingham Family Golf – a family-run business located in the Berkshire countryside – extends the existing driving range building, providing premium catering, bar and washroom facilities for visiting clientele.

Designed in direct response to the surrounding landscape, a simple ‘long and low’ form and use of high-quality natural materials – selected for their prevalence in the local area – ensures that the building stands anchored and well-mannered in its rural context. Handmade grey facing brickwork provides a strong base, while lightweight vertical timber boarded walls with careful detailing provide a crisp and contemporary aesthetic.

Introducing vitality and purpose, the new internal spaces provide a contemporary environment and act as a hub from which all on site activities can be accessed. Configured around a south facing courtyard, large expanses of openable gazing bring the outside into the new facility, while creating visual connections through and access to, the driving range, adventure golf, pitch and putt and foot golf facilities.

A responsive and sensitive architectural approach is balanced by a considered, contemporary landscape strategy, utilising a carefully selected arrangement of hard landscaping and soft planting –designed to integrate with the built forms and existing scenery – creating areas and spaces which are attractive, meaningful, and inviting.
