We were appointed to design a replacement three-storey extension to the rear of the existing property, with a new basement level beneath the ground floor kitchen. The project also consisted of a complete internal and external refurbishment and complementary landscaping scheme, along with a new garden studio.
The design sought to consolidate and extend the kitchen, living, and dining spaces into a contemporary and open plan area which opens up and provides a direct link to the rear garden and studio. A reorganisation of the internal spaces allowed a new master-bedroom suite to be created.
Materiality was critical to the planning approval, and therefore a careful blend of brickwork and stone detailing that matched the existing property was used for the three-storey extension, while a more contemporary language using large openings and crisp render was employed for the single-storey projection.
Chalfont Road is an example of how high-quality architect designed development can unlock the potential of a compact urban property.
