This is a distinctly contemporary new dwelling which replaced a modest scale 1970’s chalet style bungalow in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Due to the site's sensitive location and planning policy constraints within the AONB, a multi-stage design and planning strategy was developed to ultimately achieve consent for this large replacement dwelling. To maximise internal accommodation within volumetric constraints, flat roofs and cantilevered forms have been used. All principal living spaces are orientated towards the rear garden with a series of interlinking terraces, steps and platforms merging the boundary between inside and out. An indoor swimming pool and spa extend perpendicular to the main building form into the rear garden with access and views provided by walls of floor to ceiling glass.
